The Barringer Meteor Crater was created about 50,000 years ago in a northern Arizona desert by a meteorite that struck the Earth. It’s the best preserved impact crater in the United States due to the lack of vegetation and precipitation in this arid region.
This property located between Flagstaff and Winslow is privately owned, but is open to the public for a fee. It’s worth the fee and the drive to see the crater and the educational visitor center.
