Magic Sands Beach on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona is also known as “Disappearing Sands Beach” as the sand can disappear in a storm and then magically be put back in place naturally by the ocean. It’s also called “White Sands Beach” for the white sand that is sometimes there and sometimes not. This is a beach that is mixed between locals and tourists and it’s not a big beach. Since there are so few sandy beaches in this area of the Big Island this can be a packed beach. Boogie boarding is popular at Magic Sands as is swimming. Expert snorkelers will be out in the water when the water isn’t super churned up. Parking is available along the street and in lot across the street.
