Lake Mead is a reservoir on the border of Arizona and Nevada that was created after the completion of the Hoover Dam. It’s filled with water from the Colorado River and when full Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States with a surface area of 247 square miles. It hasn’t been full since 1983 and at times is smaller than Lake Powell, the second largest US reservoir. Mead is one of the deepest lakes in Arizona but the depth fluctuates between about 400 and 530 feet (when full) and Lake Powell is usually deeper.
