Roslyn, Washington is a former coal mining town with a storied history and ample outdoor recreation. The town is known for the Roslyn Cemetery that is divided into 25 different areas for the nationalities of the miners that died there. It’s also where the popular TV show Northern Exposure was filmed.
Mountain bike trails meander about the hills next to town in an area known as “Section 17.” The best known trail in town is the Coal Mines Trail which follows the old coal railroad tracks corridor. Hiking trails and old fire roads explore further beyond the city limits on Cle Elum Ridge (called Roslyn Ridge near Roslyn) and the mountains around Lake Cle Elum. Popular summits near Roslyn and its sister town of Ronald include Hex Mountain, Sasse Ridge, Jolly Mountain, and Mount Daniel.
The most famous off-road trail near Roslyn is the Fortune Creek 4×4 Trail which leads up to Gallagher Head Lake. The largest and most popular camping spot is Salmon la Sac Campground but there are other nearby if it’s full.
