Thompson Peak in Idaho is a magnificent mountain that offers some of the best hiking and climbing opportunities in the state. Standing at 10,751 feet, it is the highest peak in the Sawtooth Range, and is one of the most challenging climbs in the area.
The hike to the summit of Thompson Peak is a strenuous and technical climb, but the stunning views from the top make it well worth the effort. The trail starts at the Iron Creek trailhead and winds its way up through alpine meadows, past pristine lakes, and along rugged ridges. The final ascent to the summit is a scramble over loose rocks and boulders, but the panoramic views of the Sawtooth Range and surrounding valleys are simply breathtaking.
