Deep Lake is one of the deepest, if not the deepest lake in all of Florida at about 95 feet deep. It’s a natural sinkhole that has filled with water and is said to be saltwater at the bottom and freshwater on top.
The entrance to Deep Lake is the same as the Deep Lake Fire Station on Highway 29 between Interstate 75 and Highway 41 east of Naples. It’s on the east side of the highway about 8 miles from the interstate and you can park in the grass along the highway near the entrance (coordinates for the gate are 26.0429, -81.3428).
The chain link gate is always closed for animal control, but the public can open the gate to access the trailhead to the lake (close the gate behind you). Walk all the way to the fire station (which might be staffed) and look for an old road on the north side of it. It’s just over a half mile walk on this trail to the lake from the fire station. The lake shore is heavily wooded but there is an open spot to access the water. Look for an old cabin just off the trail to the lake.
It is likely that you’ll see alligators at the lake as this is a perfect habitat for them. Birds and other animals (alligator food) might be spotted at the lake. Also watch for water moccasin snakes along the path.
