This is the location of the deadly landslide near the town of Oso that occurred on March 22, 2014. The massive hillside was soaked with precipitation that was 200 percent of normal for over six weeks causing the material to slide and run out well across the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River. The river was blocked and it flooded lands upstream for over a month before it breached and created a new channel.

Forty three people died in the slide and all of the homes and structures on Steelhead Drive were destroyed. Amazingly all of the bodies were recovered.
